Mary Kate and Gann: Downtown Birmingham Wedding

Videography, Wedding

He says she is relatable, inviting, communicative and she says he is thoughtful, considerate, forward-thinking.

Mary Kate and Gann met in high school, but they didn’t become good friends and start hanging out until Mary Kate’s sophomore and Gann’s freshman year at Birmingham-Southern College. Their friend groups soon became inseparable and started hanging out nonstop. I watched them in their friend days from afar and knew they would one day realize how perfect they were for each other 😉 Sure enough, somewhere along the way these friends realized how deeply they cared for each other and how similarly they cared for and loved those around them so well. I photographed their proposal at Rhodes Park in the winter. Gann and Mary Kate headed to Rhodes Park to unwind one evening, as they usually did after a busy week. It may have been a little chilly but the freezing cold didn’t stop Gann from popping the question in a spot that meant so much to them. Gann and Mary Kate are so thoughtful and intentional in everything they do so it was no surprise to me that Gann put so much thought into where he would ask Mary Kate to spend the rest of their lives together.

I loved walking through the planning process with Mary Kate, her mom, Gann and the M. Elizabeth Events team. Every step of planning felt so easy! Mary Kate’s mom, Jennifer, spoke often about how I was their ‘historian’ for this very special time in their family’s life. It was a term that intimidated me and that I felt unworthy of at first, but I grew to truly treasure that honor and see it as a new perspective of this amazing job of mine. Needless to say, being their family historian made me more than excited for their big day.

Their wedding day started calmly at Mary Kate’s childhood home and the whole house was full of so much joy and anticipation. She had the sweetest first look with her daddy and shocked her bridesmaids when they saw her for the first time in her killer dress from Village Bridal!

One of the most important things to me on a wedding day is to make sure that my couples feel so comfortable with me around them documenting that they forget I’m there. Even though myself and my team were doing photo and video, we tried to be flies on the wall especially when it came to the first look. Mary Kate and Gann read the sweetest letters to each other focusing on not just loving each other well but accepting with open arms all those around them and loving them just as well. Their hearts melted us all, all day long, and it didn’t stop with their letters. They were married at First UMC downtown and their vows were some of my favorite vows I’ve ever heard. Check out their highlight video to hear why I believe every married couple needs a printed copy of them!

After their beautiful ceremony, we headed to Park Crest Events to celebrate the new Mr. and Mrs. Waters-Wright! Their reception had the sweetest toast for the father of the bride, a poem from the mother of the bride, a flash mob, and so much more. It was a definitely a celebration and one that I know we all didn’t want to end. Scroll down to see all the beautiful details and moments from their wedding day as well as their beautiful highlight video!

Mary Kate and Gann, thanks for entrusting me and my team to be your ‘Historian’ and document the start of your lives together. It was such an honor to capture your love and I pray these timeless images remind you year after year of all the love surrounding you both.
